How much more?
May 7, 2007
How much more functionality can they pack into receivers?
And is it really needed? I like a more simplified approach to my music system, but the
prices on receivers are hard to pass up. Why cant things be simple anymore?

I think the success of home theater is largely
responsible for the complexity of the modern receiver. What with processing options galore
and more channels that anyone really needs, is it any wonder? There are still a few
two-channel receivers available, though the integrated amplifier has basically taken over
the stereo receivers turf in recent years. If you want simplicity, look to one of
those. Most of the stereo integrated amps are first about sound quality and simple
functionality, mostly eschewing the bells and whistles of the modern receiver. And for
what its worth, I agree with you.
Best source for DIY audio?
May 2, 2007
I was wondering what sources for do-it-yourself audio you
know of. I have some good woodworking skills and would like to look into doing my own
system (at least the speakers) but really dont know where to start. Any help would
be appreciated.

The two best places I know of on the net are www.madisound.com and www.diyaudio.com. Both sites have
message boards where you can post questions to experienced DIYers. There are also multiple
companies that sell kits for anything from loudspeakers to amplifiers. With some time and
a little skill there are endless possibilities. And the best part is that youll
probably learn a lot along the way, and maybe save some money too!
